Maribel Campos honored by ASTM

The Paul Finn Memorial Award presented by the American Society of Testing & Materials (ASTM) is the highest award for technical excellence given by the organization. Originally the Member of the Year Award, but renamed for ASTM F17 Committee founding member Paul Finn, it recognizes consistent participation, leadership and contributions that have been made towards the development of standards, particularly for some important application sectors such as for sewer and drain, pipeline rehabilitation, water distribution, gas distribution, etc.

Maribel Campos, director of standards for the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) Listing Program, received the award during the ASTM F17 Main Committee Meeting held on April 11 in San Diego, Calif. Campos was recognized “for her distinguished and continuous service to the committee, and particularly to the development of sound engineering standards.”

“I am honored to receive this award for something I consider just my job to do,” Campos said. “Writing standards has been such a big part of my career that it is just second nature to me and I feel no recognition is needed. I am thankful for all the people on the F17 committee who have helped me to achieve my knowledge in the plastic piping industry.”

Campos works on the ICC-ES certification program out of the International Code Council’s Western Regional Office in Brea, Calif. With more than 16 years of experience in the plumbing field, she has worked for ICC-ES for six years and been involved with the ASTM F17 Committee for 16 years. She handles the development of listing criteria as well as conducting product evaluations for plumbing, mechanical and gas products for the fast-growing ES-PMG business unit. Campos has extensive engineering experience and has worked for a variety of companies, not least of which is Boeing.

“I have had great pleasure working with Maribel for 13 years. What she does is important for the plumbing, mechanical and gas industries,” said Campos’ supervisor Dawn La Fleur-Qualley, ES-PMG Program Director.

The ASTM Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems is one of 136 ASTM technical standards-writing committees. Established in 1898, ASTM International is one of the largest standards development and delivery systems in the world, with its standards accepted and used in research and development, product testing, quality systems, and commercial transactions around the globe.
