Kansas building official recognized by peers
Rod Haney, building official for the city of Winfield, Kan., received the Heart of America Chapter’s Code Official of the Year Award during the chapter’s annual business meeting in Manhattan, Kan. The award is presented to an active chapter member whose contribution to the code enforcement profession is meritorious and worthy of recognition and who has demonstrated professional abilities; is recognizable as an example for all members of the code enforcement profession; and has furthered the cause of safety in the building environment within a jurisdiction, the state of Kansas, or the nation.
Haney was recognized for his work in starting and organizing the South Central Kansas Education Conference for the past 12 years. Held yearly on the campus of Southwestern College, the conference provides local and area building trades contractors, inspectors and design professionals with an opportunity to receive continuing education credits to meet state and professional certification requirements.
Haney has also been instrumental in promoting the International Code Council’s Technical Training Programs across the state of Kansas. He paid for the first year of program membership for Winfield High School, which completed its third year in the program with all four students receiving certificates of completion.
In addition to active participation in the Heart of America Chapter for 25 years, Haney served three years as southwest director, six years as south central director, two years as secretary, two years as eastern vice president and two years as president. He currently serves as one of the Heart of America Chapter’s members on the Kansas Mechanical Training Review Committee.
