Preparing for Hurricane Florence

Hurricane Florence, a Category 4 hurricane, is threatening the southeastern and mid-Atlantic United States. Residents in parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia are under mandatory evacuation orders, and predictions show that the storm has the potential to cause massive damage to the affected areas.

The International Code Council is keeping a close watch on developments. As a building safety professional, you know the importance of building safety and the codes in the face of destructive storms like Hurricane Florence. You play an integral role in preparing communities for natural disasters and in helping them to get back on their feet after a devastating event.

We will be ready to step in to help as we can, and we know many of you are ready too. During last year’s devastating hurricane and wildfire seasons, we raised money for American Red Cross relief efforts, organized volunteers to help with post-disaster building assessments, and participated in FEMA’s post-storm mitigation assessment team reports. This year we are prepared to help if needed and will be in touch with further updates when available.
