International Code Council supports the Innovative Housing Showcase
The International Code Council is a founding supporter of the Innovative Housing Showcase, which kicks off on June 1. The event is made possible by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and will highlight innovations in building technologies and housing solutions that are making housing more affordable and more resilient in the face of natural disasters.
“We’re proud to support the Innovative Housing Showcase this year, as it shines a light on the exciting work being done across a range of industries to make our housing stronger, safer and more affordable,” commented Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “The Code Council has an ongoing commitment to developing updated, modern codes and standards reflecting the latest innovations in the building industry.”
Policymakers and housing industry leaders are scheduled to participate in panel discussions and interviews on the main stage, while guests and the general public can view more than a dozen exhibits, including prototype homes that feature exciting new technologies. Sara Yerkes, the Code Council’s senior vice president of Government Relations, will participate in a discussion entitled “Keeping Up with the Codes” on Wednesday, June 5, at 1:30 p.m. ET.
“The Code Council’s work is integral to the home building industry,” said Jerry Howard, chief executive officer of NAHB. “Without regularly updated, standardized codes, the process of building a home would be more cumbersome and much less safe. We work together with the Code Council to ensure that safe, affordable housing is available for all Americans.”
The Innovative Housing Showcase will be open from June 1–5, 2019, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The exhibit area is located between Jefferson and Madison Drives at 7th Street SW. Click here for more information.
