Code Council board summer meeting highlights
From June 8-9, 2020, the Code Council Board of Directors held its annual Summer Meeting via teleconference. During this meeting, of which the Open Session was livestreamed to the public from the ICC website, the Board engaged in and dispensed with the following notable items:
- Presentation on the NEHRP Report to Congress – Dr. Steven McCabe, NEHRP Director, NIST Engineering Laboratory and Mike Mahoney, Senior Geophysicist, FEMA Earthquake Program provided the Board an overview of the seismic functional recovery work accomplished as part of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP). Through the NEHRP, a committee of industry and governmental experts has been formed to provide a collection of recommendations, tasks, and options to improve the built environment as it relates to seismic functional recovery. This work is in the process of being consolidated and jointly published into a report by NIST and FEMA that will be presented to Congress in late June 2020.
- Diversity & Inclusion Policy – the Board approved a diversity & inclusion initiative for the Code Council that will require staff to perform an internal review of policies, marketing materials and communications to ensure the language within these items are devoid of bias and foster a strong culture of diversity & inclusion for its employees, members, and partners.
- Annual Conference Follow-up – the Board took action to elaborate on its earlier decision to not hold the 2020 Annual Conference and Annual Business Meeting, the details of which can be found here.
The details concerning the next Code Council Board of Directors meeting are still under development and will be communicated soon. Information on previous Board meetings can be found here.
