Code Council Board of Directors present 2021 proposed amendments to the ICC bylaws for consideration and approval
Dear ICC members,
It is with great pride that the International Code Council Board of Directors presents this year’s proposed amendments to the ICC bylaws for your consideration and approval. These proposed amendments are the result of a year’s worth of hard work by your Board of Directors and the Bylaws Committee, and we enthusiastically recommend their approval at this year’s Annual Business Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In the fall of 2020, Board President Greg Wheeler tasked this year’s Bylaws Committee with evaluating potential amendments that would be prudent and in the best interests of the organization. In response to this charge, the committee held nine productive meetings, during which the committee conducted a holistic review of the bylaws, developed a “parking lot” of issues to prioritize and address, and drafted amendments with the future success of the organization in mind. The Board of Directors, at its March and June meetings, unanimously approved the committee-recommended amendments that are before you today.
A brief summary of these two proposed amendments are as follows:
Proposed Amendment 2021-1: Editorial Amendments
The purpose of this bylaw amendment is to provide editorial amendments and establish consistency of terms throughout the ICC Bylaws.
Proposed Amendment 2021-2: Various Amendments
This amendment consists of three parts, which are explained more in-depth within the amendment proposal and aim to enact the following:
- Eliminate the requirement that the Immediate Past President maintain Governmental Member Voting Representative (GMVR) status.
- Increase the signatory threshold for bylaw amendment proposals.
- Condense the order of business for the Annual Business Meeting to create more flexibility.
These proposed amendments accommodate current organizational needs and position the Code Council for future success. Accordingly, the Board of Directors is honored to be able to propose them for your consideration and emphatically recommends their approval. Should you have any questions about these proposed amendments or the Code Council bylaws as a whole, please reach out to memberinput@iccsafe.org.
As always, we appreciate your devoted commitment to the governance of the Code Council and very much look forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh for this year’s Annual Conference.
Sincerely,
The International Code Council Board of Directors
