ICC’s Turfgrass and Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler Standard Committee to Hold First Meeting August 31-September 1st
An International Code Council committee will begin the process of developing the first ANSI standard to address the design, construction, performance and testing of sprinklers used in landscape and turfgrass irrigation systems. The agenda for the first meeting of the ICC Turfgrass and Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler Standard Committee (IS-TLS) includes a discussion of the scope of the standard, formation of task groups, creation of a starting resource document, and the election of a committee chair and vice chair. All meetings of the IS-TLS are open to the public and stakeholder participation is highly encouraged.
The IS-TLS meeting will be held from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Aug. 31-Sept. 1, at the Hyatt Rosemont Hotel (6350 North River Road, Rosemont, Ill.) near Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.
“We’re confident the committee will produce a document that is technically sound, scientifically based, effective and fair,” Executive Director of the ICC Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fuel Gas (PMG) group Jay Peters said. “ICC is proud to be undertaking this important effort to develop the first ANSI consensus standard for these types of products that are used so widely around the United States.”
The Chicago meeting will be the first of several committee meetings convened during the development of the standard. In between meetings, task groups will address specific topics within the standard and draft language to be considered by the full committee. Participation in the task groups, which will meet via teleconference and webinars, will be open to all interested parties. After a draft is developed, it will be formally released for public comment, in keeping with ANSI requirements. The public process will develop a document that ultimately will be submitted to ANSI for approval as an American National Standard (ANS).
“We recognized the need for this standard during the development of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC),” ICC PMG Group Director of Industry Relations Shawn Martin said, who will serve as secretariat for the standard effort. “We expect the new standard will focus on issues such as product design, performance, testing and interoperability. Product standards serve to provide basic design and performance requirement to address quality, durability, function and can provide uniform testing methods. Ultimately, though, it will be up to the consensus committee to determine the contents and provisions in the standard.”
