Highrise Concrete Buildings: System Selection, Analysis, Design, Detailing and Constructability

Efficient concrete building design requires an in-depth understanding of how different elements of the structure interact to create an efficient system that is constructible. System behavior is seldom taught and yet is essential to the design of concrete buildings. This seminar will give the basics behind the design of high-rise concrete buildings with an emphasis on seismic design. Building analysis and design will be presented through case studies. Material property selection and advantages of high strength steel and concrete will be discussed. Finally, the importance of detailing and constructability will be illustrated through construction photos and videos.
