Energy Focus

We know how important your professional development is for career advancement and we strive to provide educational programs, as well as networking so that building safety professionals can reach their goals. We also strive to foster ongoing benefits for our current and new members. We concentrate on engaging new members, keeping renewing members active, and supporting the Code Council’s Chapters. Here is a look at some of our initiatives for 2021.

Professional Development

  • We continued our innovative virtual learning week Learn Live. The fall session covered 20 different topics and had attendance of 5,313.
  • The Code Council began planning an Online Learning yearly subscription plan with access to over 150 online courses for one low price.
  • The Code Council collaborated with ASHRAE to launch a new International Green Construction Code (IgCC)-focused exam: the Certified Commercial Green Construction Professional.

Helping Future Members: Introducing the Technical Training Program Portal

  • The Code Council launched Safety 2.0’s newest educational tool – the Technical Training Program (TTP) Portal.
  • The portal provides instructors and students with virtual access to the technical content of the TTP, in addition to the features and functionality of a robust learning management system.

In 2021, the Code Council focused on expanding Safety 2.0 Programs through technology and partnerships. A new Safety 2.0 microsite and online portal for the Technical Training Program provides easy access to all Safety 2.0 resources. New partnerships we formed this year will help to introduce young professionals to building safety career opportunities through Safety 2.0.

Engaging New Members

  • We launched a new, simplified membership structure that makes it even easier for new members to engage and find the resources they need.

Many of our members have struggled throughout this pandemic, as work situations and locations have shifted and building trends have fluctuated. We've been with them every step of the way to help them through the challenges of their day-to-day operations.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Digital Codes Subscription Access

  • Loyal, renewing and returning members deserve our thanks and support. In 2021, renewing members received access to the 2021 International Codes through a digital codes subscription that is free for the life of the membership.
  • Members were offered an upgrade to their subscriptions at a deep discount. Members also continue to receive free code opinions, discounts on products and services, and access to members-only resources.

We heard from our membership and with your feedback, we're planning to add enhanced benefits in 2022.

Partnering with Code Council Chapters

  • The 2021 Chapter Leadership Academy was held virtually in order to accommodate those leaders who were not able to travel. By fall 2021, the Chapter Presidents meeting was able to return to an in-person meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  • Our volunteer Chapter leaders provide some of the strongest support for the mission and goals of the Code Council family of solutions.
  • Our 396 Chapters throughout the world work in partnership with the Code Council to provide training and education, leadership opportunities, and participation in code-related initiatives to members at a grassroots level.
  • The number of Code Council Chapters remains strong at nearly 400 organizations. Our chapters include the latest group to be chartered: the South Carolina Association for Hazard Mitigation, a professional organization dedicated to educating our communities about hazard mitigation and loss prevention.
  • Chapters earn training days from the Code Council as well as financial support for attending the Code Council Annual Conference and annual Chapter Leadership Academy. In return, Chapters help raise the profile of the Code Council and its members.
  • Code Council staff attended over 800 chapter meetings, supporting our chapters’ work, keeping our members up to date on relevant policy, locally and nationally, and ensuring members are best equipped to capture federal resources to support their efforts.
  • After the American Rescue Plan’s enactment in March, the Code Council engaged with partners and stakeholders on funding availability for building safety professionals. As a result, roughly $20 million has been invested in building departments through the American Rescue Plan to date.
  • Following extensive Code Council outreach, FEMA’s mitigation grant program, Building Resilient Infrastructure Communities (BRIC), awarded almost $1.5 million to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments for code-related projects.

After two years of virtual meetings, we look forward to welcoming our Chapter leaders back in-person in Colorado in June of 2022.
