Highlights from the International Code Council Board of Directors summer 2022 meeting

The International Code Council Board of Directors held its annual summer meeting on Saturday, June 11, 2022, in Bluffton, South Carolina. Present at the meeting were the board’s officers and directors, Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, and Code Council senior staff. During the meeting, the board addressed a wide variety of matters, including the following notable items:
Committee appointments
The board approved appointments to the 2022 Nominating Committee, the Diversity, Inclusion & Equity Ad Hoc Committee, and the Professional Development Council. Appointment letters are forthcoming.
Membership Council charter revisions
The board approved proposed revisions to the Emerging Leaders Membership Council and Building Membership Council charters. The revisions will allow these membership councils and their governing committees to conduct business more efficiently.
2021 Validation Committee report
The board approved the 2021 Validation Committee Report, which certified the results of the Online Governmental Consensus Vote and confirmed a valid voting process for the 2021 Group A Code Development Cycle.
Presentation from the IAEI
International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) President and Chief Executive Officer Rudolph “Rudy” Garza and IAEI Board Chairman David Williams provided a presentation to the board on IAEI’s history and current activities. Potential future collaboration efforts between IAEI and the Code Council were discussed.
Proposed ICCPC development
The board approved the initiation of a multi-year project to update the ICC Performance Code (ICCPC), which includes using the Code Council standards development process to update the ICCPC and considering a limited number of co-developers to support the project. For the remainder of 2022, this work will focus on planning, partnership development and committee development, and the main standards development work will begin in earnest in 2023.
Approved revisions to the ICC Code of Ethics
The board approved the Audit Committee-proposed revisions to the ICC Code of Ethics. These revisions require all individuals participating in Code Council activities to demonstrate equity and professional conduct and to disclose any known or potential conflicts of interest that could appear to influence their judgment.
Memorial request for code officials and code enforcement officers killed in the line of duty
The board took under consideration a request from the Building Officials Association of Louisiana for the Code Council to create a memorial for code officials and code enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. The board approved the development of a webpage memorial listing those who have been killed in their line of work and a resolution of the members honoring such individuals, which will be presented at the Annual Business Meeting.
The next in-person board meeting will take place in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, in conjunction with the Code Council’s 2022 Annual Conference. Information on upcoming and previous board meetings can be found here.
