Amrinder Singh Receives 2022 ICC Excellence in Public Safety Award
Through his hard work and dedication to the community, Singh embodies what it means to act in the best interest of public safety.
Each year, the International Code Council recognizes peers and colleagues who are a reflection of what the association stands for: Dedication to developing model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. The Code Council and its Membership Councils honored several outstanding individuals and organizations for their accomplishments and contributions to building safety and resiliency in their communities during the 2022 Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
The ICC Excellence in Public Safety Award recognizes a member of the building industry who consistently demonstrates outstanding qualities, including integrity, professionalism, and representing the spirit of public service in the interest of public safety. Amrinder Singh, MCP, CBO, received the 2022 ICC Excellence in Public Safety Award. Singh is the Code Enforcement Manager and Building Code Official for the Municipality of Norristown, Pennsylvania.
In addition to earning his ICC Master Code Professional certification, the highest level of certification and designation for code officials, Singh holds 20 other Code Council certifications, including Building Code Specialist, Commercial Building Inspector, Housing and Zoning specialist, and Code Enforcement Administrator. He also encourages and mentors his team to achieve professional certifications.
“Education, training and certification is an integral part of Amrinder’s managerial style in the building safety field,” one of his colleagues wrote in their nomination letter.
Singh was appointed to his current position with the Municipality of Norristown in 2018. Under his leadership, the Norristown Department of Buildings and Code Enforcement became one of the first agencies in Pennsylvania to be accredited by the American Association of Code Enforcement. He created the municipality’s first-ever Building Safety, Property Maintenance and Housing Code, which ensures stricter proof of education and training requirements for contractors. He also drafted the Lead Poisoning and Lead Hazard Control Ordinance, which requires lead paint testing for all licensed rental properties and property transfers. With these and his many other professional accomplishments, Singh continues to improve public safety for everyone who lives and works in his community.
In 2021, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf selected Singh for the state’s Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council. This 21-person council advises the Governor, the General Assembly, and the Department of Labor and Industry regarding proposed changes to the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act.
“[Being appointed to this council] is a crowning achievement for anyone,” wrote Singh’s colleague. “But it is especially notable for someone still so young in their career. It is a true testament of Amrinder’s character and professionalism.”
Through his hard work and dedication to the community, Singh embodies what it means to act in the best interest of public safety.
The International Code Council congratulates Amrinder Singh as its 2022 Excellence in Public Safety Award recipient.
