The Code Council Board of Directors has retained global search firm Russell Reynolds Associates to begin search for successor
Washington, D.C. – The International Code Council announced today that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dominic Sims, CBO, plans to leave the organization at the end of 2024.
With nearly 20 years at the Code Council and 12 years as CEO, Sims has had an undeniable impact on the organization and the building safety industry. Under his leadership, Code Council revenues grew from $51 million to over $160 million, and the organization’s cash and investments increased from $11 million to $125 million. Additionally, Sims has been instrumental in the Code Council’s digital transformation and diversification strategies. During his tenure, the Code Council expanded its products and services globally and acquired NTA, General Code, American Legal Publishing, and others.
“Dominic has led the International Code Council for many years and helped to make the organization the global building safety leader that it is today,” said Board President Stuart Tom, P.E., CBO, FIAE. “We are sorry to see him go, and we are extremely grateful for his many years of service to the Code Council and the building safety community.” Sims will work closely with the search committee to find the Code Council’s next CEO and help prepare the organization for success during the leadership transition.
“This decision comes after careful thought and planning,” said Sims. “In my time as CEO, I have been fortunate to work alongside many incredible professionals, and I’ve seen firsthand the importance of the work we do to protect public health and safety in the built environment. The past 20 years have been quite a journey, and I’m proud to have served building safety professionals.”
As CEO, Sims is responsible for overseeing all activities and the financial performance of the association, including its subsidiaries. Prior to becoming CEO, Sims functioned as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of the Code Council. He has served on and chaired numerous committees and task groups across a variety of subjects, including code and standards development, government affairs, and business and member development. His leadership included chairing the ICC Scoping Committee that set the stage for the development of the family of International Codes®. He was instrumental in the creation of one central model code and in the merge of the Code Council’s three legacy organizations, and his leadership and insight has ushered the Code Council into the thriving association it is today.
The Code Council Board of Directors has retained global executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates to help identify candidates for the position. The search process will begin in early 2024. Please reference the Code Council’s Building Safety Journal for any updates on this transition as they become available.
