Code Council Sponsored Apprentice Plumber Cody McDonald Wins PHCC National Competition
McDonald competed against 19 other contestants and won the 2023 PHCC National Apprentice Competition, marking the first time an Indiana contestant has won.
Held by the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association of Georgia (PHCC), PHCC CONNECT is a national plumbing and HVAC apprentice contest that calls on the top plumbing and HVAC apprentices from across the nation to test their skills, knowledge and accuracy.
2023 National Plumbing and HVAC Apprentice Contest
During PHCC CONNECT 2023 held in Cleveland, Ohio, the International Code Council sponsored plumbing apprentice Cody McDonald of Van Contracting, Columbia City, Indiana.
The contest parameters included:
- Install a basic three-piece bathroom—toilet, sink, and shower
- Install water and drain, waste and vent lines
- Determine rough-in locations
- Establish grade lines for installing plumbing
- Install vents and cleanouts
- Rough-in waste and vent lines
- Rough-in water supply lines
- Secure horizontal and vertical lines of pipe to wood and metal surfaces
McDonald competed against 19 other contestants and won the 2023 PHCC National Apprentice Competition, marking the first time an Indiana contestant has won. Dave Frame, PHCC National President, Laura Ciriello-Benedict, PHCC National Secretary and Brenda Dant, Indiana PHCC Executive Director, were thrilled to celebrate Indiana’s first national competition winner from their home state.
