International Code Council Performance Code Consensus Committee Appointed
The ICCPC can be a tool for countries, such as the U.S., that have a well-developed regulatory system to assist in the adoption of new and sustainable technologies in a safe and holistic way.
The International Code Council Performance Code Consensus Committee was approved by the Board of Directors on November 14, 2023.
The first virtual meeting of the committee will be held on December 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM CT. You can join the meeting here.
Reimagining the Code Council’s Performance Code
In 2021, the Code Council undertook a reimagining process facilitated and supported by Brian Meacham, Managing Principal at Meacham Associates, on behalf of the Code Council. Based on the findings of this process, the Code Council decided to launch an effort to revise the ICC Performance Code (ICCPC) utilizing the organization’s Consensus procedures.
The reimagined ICCPC will be developed to replace the 2024 ICCPC with the next publication to be available tentatively by the end of 2027.
The next edition of the ICCPC aims to provide a comprehensive framework to be used as an enhanced regulatory tool to facilitate more holistic performance of buildings, filling existing gaps and taking on new areas such as operational performance requirements and functional recovery requirements, which are needed for a healthier and more sustainable built environment. The reimagined ICCPC has the potential to facilitate more robust solutions and have stronger linkages to design methods, tools and data.
The ICCPC can be a tool for countries, such as the U.S., that have a well-developed regulatory system to assist in the adoption of new and sustainable technologies in a safe and holistic way. Additionally, in countries where such regulatory systems are under development or need further development, the ICCPC can serve as a framework.
