The International Code Council’s 2024 Annual Conference is just around the corner, but it’s not too late to register and enjoy some of the most anticipated events.
As building safety professionals are finishing up any last-minute travel plans, the Code Council has curated a list of conference highlights to look forward to. From first-time conference goers to conference veterans, below are fan-favorite events and some new additions you won’t want to miss!
Career Zone
Sunday, Oct. 20 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 21 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Expo Hall
Upgrade your social media and professional accounts with a free professional headshot offered at the career zone. It is first come, first serve. The Career Zone will also feature a resume review and job board.
Bridge Building Challenge
Monday, Oct. 21 from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Will conference goers leave friends or rivals? Enter this engineering challenge and see who will emerge as the 2024 Bridge Building Challenge champion! Join us for the second annual challenge to build bridges against your colleagues for bragging rights and glory!
Expo Talks
Sunday, Oct. 20 from 3:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 21 from 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Learn the latest and greatest in building safety technology in quick hit 30-minute presentations taking place in the Expo hall. Each session will be worth .05 ICC CEUs. ICC Talks: Inspiration and Innovation
Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. and Monday
New this year, ICC Talks begins with keynote speaker Victoria Arlen, ESPN host and author. Arlen will share her experiences as a Paralympic Gold Medalist and motivate participants to reach further and overcome obstacles.
Following the keynote address, participants will listen to a panel of experts from across the building industry as they share their perspectives on off-site construction and the challenges and opportunities it presents.

Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. and Monday
The International Code Council partnered with ConstructReach, a construction industry workforce development initiative and consultancy, to host this work-based learning event in the exhibit hall. Students will participate in hands-on activities and interactive demos led by construction professionals as well as get the opportunity to discuss career pathways with industry experts. Volunteers are needed to lead student groups, set up/break down materials, distribute PPE, assemble gift bags and more.
Live Podcast Recording
Monday, Oct. 21 from 2:30 p.m.
As a bonus episode for Season 6, the ICC Pulse Podcast will be recording LIVE in the Expo Hall. ICC Pulse Podcast host, Beau Hansen, will be having a conversation with leaders in the building safety industry about the Code Council’s past, present and future. No RSVP is required, simply stop by to listen in and join the Q&A session at the end.
Off-Site Construction Experience
Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. and Monday
The Off-Site Construction Experience includes an insight session on emerging building safety topics, a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities of off-site construction and a specialized training track.
30th Anniversary Exhibit
As part of the Code Council’s 30th-anniversary celebrations, the conference will feature a 30th-anniversary exhibit where visitors can explore artifacts from the Code Council’s history and participate in the creation of a time capsule to commemorate this milestone.
First-Timers Program
Navigate your first conference with confidence! This program includes a virtual orientation that overviews the conference and schedule, key events and provides tips and tricks to help make the most out of your conference experience. During the conference, a first-timer-only exclusive mixer will take place where participants can meet each other and speak to conference veterans.

Annual Ron Burton Golf Outing
Sunday, Oct. 20 from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. (8 a.m. tee off) at the Harding Golf Course
Hosted by the Past Presiding Officers of the Code Council, this annual outing is a great opportunity to connect with Code Council members and expand your network. This year’s venue, Harding Golf Course, is a Golf Digest “Best Places to Play” award winner. Learn more here.
WICED/PTN/Code Council Day of Service Volunteer Outing
On Saturday, Oct. 19, Conference attendees have the opportunity to volunteer at the Century Villages of Cabrillo (CVC), in partnership with Habitat for Humanity for Los Angeles (HFHLA).
Volunteers will aid in two exciting projects: building playhouses for the children affected by homelessness and a beautification project for their Veterans’ family campus community. This day of service is put on by Women in Code Enforcement Development (WICED), PermitTechNation (PTN) and the Code Council.
All volunteers will earn 0.7 ICC CEUs. Bus transportation, lunch and a special volunteer T-shirt will be provided.
Building Tours
Sunday, Oct. 20 from 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Building Tour #1 – Long Beach City Hall & Port of Long Beach Administration Building & The Queen Mary – 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m
This tour starts with a trip to Long Beach City Hall and Port of Long Beach Administration Building. These two LEED Gold-certified buildings were designed to prioritize environmental performance.
The tour will conclude with a visit to the Queen Mary. While exploring the ship, participants will learn how the city treats this ship as a structure for the purpose of permitting and construction activity. The expert guide will talk about the various projects to restore, rehabilitate and improve ADA-related compliance measures and the application of historic preservation standards.
Building Tour #2 – ReMo Homes Factory Tour (Half Day) – 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m
Participants will walk through a model home and discuss the process involved in building these innovative, sustainable and affordable homes. ReMo Homes is on a mission to solve the housing and climate crises through innovative manufacturing techniques.
Building Tour #3 – Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Site (Half Day) – 12 p.m. – 4 p.m
The Rancho Los Alamitos, the “Ranch of the Little Cottonwoods,” is a Long Beach City landmark. The Rancho Center has an exhibition, theatre and related program facilities that connect 21st century audiences with the powerful story of California, its landscape and its inhabitants throughout time. Enjoy the opportunity to learn from some of the code officials, engineers and specialists involved with the site’s extensive construction work that included cutting-edge seismic stabilization of the circa 1800 adobe core ranch house.
Building Tour #4 – Harbor Breeze Cruise (Half Day) – 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m
Learn about the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge and how it was permitted and built. Get an up-close view of large cargo and container ships from all over the world and hear how permits are obtained by the different ports depending on what they store, ship and receive. Enjoy views of the unique Long Beach Harbor, beautiful Long Beach skyline, world famous Queen Mary and much more!
