International Code Council Celebrates World Standards Day

The International Code Council is proud to sponsor the 2024 U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD), taking place on November 14, 2024. This annual event recognizes the contributions of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment professionals, bringing together experts to celebrate the importance of standards in building safer and more resilient communities across the world.

WSD serves as a platform to discuss how standards can help achieve goals for the future, particularly in addressing climate resilience and sustainability.

The celebration is organized by a planning committee co-chaired by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), with the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) serving as the administrating organization for the 2024 event.

The Importance of Collaboration

This year’s theme, Shared Vision for a Better World: Standards for the Changing Climate, highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges created by climate change.  

As the global climate continues to change, the role of building codes and standards becomes even more important in ensuring the built environment is resilient and prepared to withstand natural disasters. The theme emphasizes that a shared vision, achieved through working together, is key to creating sustainable solutions for the future. 

The Code Council’s sponsorship of this day aligns with its long-standing commitment to advancing safety, sustainability and resilience in the built environment. As a leader in the development of building codes and standards, the Code Council works closely with industry stakeholders, government agencies and international bodies to ensure that the industry remains at the forefront of addressing climate-related challenges.
