Ron Clements is the building official for Chesterfield County, Virginia, and director of the Chesterfield Building Inspection Department. He is responsible for the management of the building inspection department, which includes a staff of over 60 public safety professionals and a 5-million-dollar budget. He has held this position since 2019, prior to that he was the assistant building official and assistant department director. He has over 30 years of code enforcement experience, six years as a plans examiner for Hanover County, Virginia in addition to 24 years with Chesterfield. Ron holds a bachelor’s degree in building construction from Virginia Tech. He holds numerous Virginia and Code Council professional certifications including building official, property maintenance official, building plans examiner, fire protection plans examiner, fire protection inspector, and building inspector. 

In addition to the ICC Board of Directors, Ron has served on a dozen ICC committees over the last two decades. Ron’s professional activities in Virginia include service on the board of directors for the Virginia Building and Code Officials Association since 1997 and the board of directors for the Virginia Plumbing and Mechanical Inspectors Association since 2008. He has served as president of VBCOA 2005/2006 and as chair of the Legislative Committee since 2008. As legislative chair, Ron serves as a lobbyist at the Virginia General Assembly on behalf of both associations. Ron is also a lead instructor for Virginia’s Jack Proctor Building Code Academy.
