This session will explore how the demand for emerging technologies can impact fire safety, and the role of codes. Emerging environmental needs, and policy drivers resulting in increased demand for energy storage will first be discussed followed by a presentation on a fire incident associated with an Energy Storage System installation in Surprise, Arizona. Such installations are becoming more popular with increasing use of renewable energy. The case study will discuss the need for codes and standards to respond to the fire safety needs for successful implementation of new and emerging technologies.
