U.S. Food and Drug Administration recognizes the International Accreditation Service

This recognition allows IAS to accredit certification bodies that certify human and animal food products for export to the U.S. market

Brea, Calif. – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognized the International Accreditation Service (IAS) as an accreditation body under the Accredited Third-Party Certification Program. This program, established under the Food Safety Modernization Act, is voluntary and verifies the accreditation bodies competence through a rigorous application review and onsite assessment.

The FDA recognition allows IAS to accredit certification bodies worldwide that audit human and animal food facilities products, including produce, seafood and low-acid foods. Certification bodies that pass the IAS accreditation process can then apply for the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program, which provides expedited review and import entry of human and animal foods into the U.S.

“We are extremely proud of this recognition from the FDA,” said IAS President Raj Nathan. “IAS is one of the leading accreditation bodies in the world, and we look forward to offering this new accreditation service to the food industry globally.”

IAS is also recognized by the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000, GLOBALG.A.P. and the International Food Standard (IFS) to provide accreditation of certification bodies to meet the needs of the international food sector. IAS is also a signatory of the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, International Accreditation Forum, and Pacific Accreditation Cooperation, and a member of the International Halal Accreditation Forum.
