Louisiana
State AdoptionsLouisiana adopts its building codes at the state level through the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council (LSUCCC). The state enforces the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code, which is based on the International Codes (I-Codes) published by the International Code Council (ICC), including the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The Council updates these codes on a three-year cycle to stay aligned with the latest national editions, adding state-specific amendments to address Louisiana’s hurricane, flood, and wind-zone requirements. All parishes and municipalities are required by law to enforce the state-adopted codes, creating a uniform statewide standard for construction while ensuring that local conditions—particularly those related to the Gulf Coast’s severe weather risks—are properly addressed.
Effective July 1, 2026, the Louisiana State Uniform Fire Prevention Code provides the International Fire Code as a fire code choice when local governments choose to adopt a fire code. Links to State Adoption Agencies |
