Act Now: Review the Code Council’s Proposed Committee Interpretation
Code Council Committee Interpretations provide technical support and clarification by processing official interpretations of the I-Codes.
A proposed Committee Interpretation to Section 1007.1.1 of Two exits or exit access doorways of the 2021 International Building Code® (IBC) was posted for the International Code Council’s Membership review and comment on March 29, 2023.
The review and comment period will end on April 28, 2023. The proposed Committee Interpretation can be viewed here.
Committee Interpretations
Code Council Committee Interpretations provide technical support and clarification to adopting jurisdictions, design professionals and members of the construction industry by processing official interpretations of the International Codes®.
There are currently five Code Council Interpretation Committees:
- Building Code Interpretations Committee (BCIC)
- Energy Conservation, Existing Building, Green Construction, Property Maintenance, Zoning Code Interpretations Committee (ECIC)
- Fire, Wildland-Urban Interface Code Interpretations Committee (FCIC)
- Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fuel Gas, Private Sewage Disposal, Swimming Pool Code Interpretations Committee (PMGCIC)
- Residential Code Interpretations Committee (RCIC)
Committee Interpretations represent the official position of the Code Council however, in all cases, the final authority on matters of interpretation is the code official.
The Code Council is currently accepting applications for new members to join any of the five Code Interpretation Committees. The deadline is June 1, 2023, you can apply here.
