Existing Building Safety Guideline Now Open for Public Comments
The Code Council's Existing Building Safety – A Guideline for Inspection (G7-202x) draft will be open for public comments until April 12, 2024.
Maintaining the safety and integrity of the various components within a building is crucial for the health and welfare of its occupants and the public.
To support this, the International Code Council is currently developing a new resource, Existing Building Safety – A Guideline for Inspection (G7-202x), which is now open for public comment.
This guideline aims to support building owners, managers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) in maintaining their properties by establishing minimum timeframes for visual and other assessments, allowing for the prompt identification and a pathway for the resolution of potential hazards.
The guideline is proposed to address the following topics:
- Structural elements
- Egress components
- Active and passive fire protection systems
- The building envelope (including the roof)
- Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and fuel gas equipment and systems
In accordance with Council Policy, CP-33, the draft of G7-202x is available for a 30-day comment period. The comment period will be open until April 12, 2024. All public comments should be submitted to the staff liaison for the Guideline Development Committee, Kevin McOsker, via email at kmcosker@iccsafe.org.
Public comments should be provided in legislative (strike out -delete, underline – new) language with a reason statement for the committee’s consideration. Please include contact information with the public comments.
