Going digital – Transition certification application streamlines the process

Previously, a candidate’s only option to complete the transition certification application was by downloading a form, filling it in, and then mailing the form, payment and supporting documentation to the International Code Council. This was a lengthy and out-of-date process. The new digital process allows for all steps to be completed online in a timely fashion with a more prompt turnaround. “This is yet another accomplishment for the Assessment Center towards going digital and making the ICC experience easier for our customers,” said Margaret Awokoya, Assessment Center project coordinator.

Qualifications for transition certification is offered on a select number of certifications achieved through third-party vendors that are substantially equivalent to corresponding Code Council certifications. These equivalencies are determined by the Code Council. We currently offer the online transition certification program for select certificates, including: Fire Inspector I (66), Fire Inspector II (67), Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector (S1), and Structural Welding Special Inspector (S2).

The Fire Inspector I (66) and Fire Inspector II (67) transitions pertain to those who hold a ProBoard Certification. For additional information, please refer to the ICC Renewals website.

The Structural Welding Special Inspector (S2) transition pertains to those who hold:

• Option A — Current ICC Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector (85) and current AWS CWI or CAWI certification.
• Option B — Current AWS CWI or CAWI certification without a current ICC 85 certification qualifies for transition to the Structural Welding Special Inspector (S2) by passing the Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector (S1) examination.
• Option C — Current ICC Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector (85) and attendance at the Structural Welding Inspection seminar given by Steel Structures Technology Center.

The Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector (S1) transition pertains to those who hold a current ICC Structural Steel & Welding Special Inspector (85) certification.
