Gregg Gress retires from Code Council’s technical staff
Gregg Gress, a senior technical staff member with the Code Council’s Codes and Standards Development department in the Central Regional Office, retired at the beginning of October. He worked for the International Code Council — and legacy organization Building Officials and Code Administrators International — for nearly 30 years.
In addition to working with the Code Council’s code development process, Gress developed training materials, provided written and verbal code interpretations, and authored commentary text. He was the secretariat for the ICC International Mechanical Code (IMC), the ICC International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), the International Residential Code Mechanical and Fuel Gas Provisions, and the International Residential Code Electrical Provisions. He also was the staff liaison to the International Mechanical Code Committee, the International Residential Code Committee, the Plumbing/Mechanical Development Committee, the Plumbing Mechanical Fuel Gas Code Action Committee (PMGCAC) and the Electrical Certification Exam Committee.
Gress was very active in outside standards activities as well. He was a member of the NFPA 54/AGA Z223.1 committee responsible for determining IFGC content. He was also a member of the AHSRAE 189.1 committee responsible for determining the technical provisions of the International Green Construction Code and participating in many other ASHRAE committees.
In 2015, Gress received the ICC President’s Award for his service to the International Code Council. In 2010, he received an honorary membership to the Virginia Plumbing & Mechanical Inspectors Association for his outstanding support to the Chapter.
Gress holds several ICC certifications and has experience in the construction industry as a journeyman plumber, electrician, HVAC technician, construction/maintenance supervisor, construction manager and designer, and as a municipal plumbing and mechanical inspector and plan reviewer.
