International Code Council Releases Suite of New Resources to Help Communities Capture Federal Grants
Resources include a decision tree explaining which grant programs are the best fit for different prospective applicants and more.
With deadlines rapidly approaching on a diverse array of federal grant support on code adoption and implementation activities, the International Code Council’s federal grants team has prepared a suite of new resources to help communities better navigate these opportunities.
These resources include:
- A decision tree explaining which grant programs are the best fit for different prospective applicants. The decision tree explores options based on different types of applicants (e.g., state vs. local governments), different scopes of activities (adoption and implementation vs. adoption or implementation), and different types of code updates (hazard-resistant codes vs. energy codes) that may or may not meet/exceed the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code® (IECC).
- A matrix comparing four major federal grant programs currently available.
- A second decision tree specifically for the Department of Energy (DOE) Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) competitive grants. This resource has information on what state, territory, and/or local government should apply for if they expect to update their energy code in the next four years to a code that’s at least equivalent to the 2021 IECC.
- A Code Council member-focused fact sheet on the just-announced $530M in IRA competitive grant funding.
IRA formula grant Notice of Intent letters are due Jan. 31, 2024, concept papers for IRA competitive grants are due Feb. 9, 2024, and FEMA BRIC applications are due Feb. 29, 2024, although many states have earlier pre-application deadlines for BRIC.
