N.Y. State Senator Earns Code Council Raising the Profile Award for Her Support of Code Officials

New York State Senator Betty Little is the 2012 recipient of the International Code Council’s Raising the Profile Award. She was nominated by the New York State Building Officials Conference, an ICC Chapter, for her support of code officials. The award recognizes an individual or organization for acts or contributions that raise public awareness of accomplishments by code personnel that improve public safety in the built environment.

Senator Little showed the depth of her true commitment by being instrumental in obtaining resources for the purchase of code books for every certified code enforcement official in the state, her nomination states. It also outlines her introduction of a N.Y. Senate Resolution commemorating Building Safety Month which was approved by her fellow legislators in each of the past seven years. Her district was hard hit by Hurricane Irene and she has worked tirelessly with local code enforcement officials to get her constituents the assistance they need.

Previous recipients of the award include the Clark County, Wash., “Think Permit” campaign, and the Virginia Building and Code Official Association and New River Valley Home Builders “Better Building. Safer Homes.” initiative.

Senator Little began her public service career as a member of the New York State Assembly. She was selected in 2011 by the Senate Majority Leader to serve in a leadership position as Deputy Majority Leader for Intergovernmental Affairs and appointed to the Senate Finance Committee. She chairs the Senate Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation Committee. She also serves on the Civil Service and Pensions; Consumer Protection; Crime Victims, Crime and Correction; Environmental Conservation; Judiciary; and Local Government Senate committees.
