Palm Beach County Code Official Boyer Elected to International Code Council Board
Robert G. Boyer, Code Product and Training Coordinator for the Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning and Building Department, has been elected as a Director on the International Code Council Board. Boyer monitors impending code changes, and reviews and recommends acceptable proposals for alternative construction materials and methods for compliance with the county’s building codes. He also assists with training and professional development of Building Division employees.
Through public/private sector collaboration, the Code Council provides support to government by developing codes that allow for safe and sustainable construction. As a result, government does not take on the high cost of developing its own codes and benefits from code uniformity that encourages local, affordable construction growth.
Boyer was elected during the Council’s 2011 Annual Conference in November.
“Our Directors devote a lot time and energy to volunteer for the International Code Council Board,” said International Code Council CEO Richard P. Weiland. “They could not serve on the board without the support of the jurisdictions they work for. We thank the Board members and their employers for their dedication to pursuing the goal of building safety and fire prevention.”
Boyer holds many professional certifications and memberships in professional groups locally and nationally. He is licensed in Florida as a Code Administrator, Plans Examiner and Inspector, and he holds Code Council Certifications for Building Official, Housing Code Official, Building Inspector, Zoning Inspector, Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector, and Standard Coastal Construction Inspector. In 2008, he received a gubernatorial appointment to a seat on the Florida Building Commission. He is a past president of the Building Officials Association of Florida and the Building Officials Association of Palm Beach County. In 1997, he was named Planning, Zoning and Building Department Employee of the Year in Palm Beach County.
As a Code Council Board member, Boyer will be reunited with former colleague and current Council Chief Operating officer Dominic Sims. Sims is a former Executive Director of the Palm Beach Planning, Zoning and Building Department.
The International Code Council is a member-focused association dedicated to helping the building safety community and construction industry provide safe and sustainable construction through the development of codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process.
