The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently named James W. Tobin III as President and CEO of the 140,000-member association. Tobin’s position will become effective on June 1, 2023, when he succeeds current CEO Jerry Howard, who is leaving NAHB after over 30 years.
As the previous Executive Vice President, Government Affairs and Chief Lobbyist, Tobin directed the federal, state and local lobbying and political activities for NAHB. He was also previously NAHB’s Vice President for Federal Relations and was the Senior Legislative Assistant to former U.S. Representative Frank Riggs (Calif.) and former U.S. Representative Gary Franks (Conn.).
“I’m honored to have been selected as CEO of this outstanding organization,” said Tobin. “The work that our members do is incredibly important and has a huge impact in every community across this country. I look forward to representing our staff and members in advocating for the future of the housing industry.”
Combining Efforts to Support Building Safety
The International Code Council has been a longstanding supporter of NAHB which strives to ensure that housing is a national priority and that all Americans have access to safe and affordable housing. NAHB also works to achieve professional success for its members who build communities, create jobs and help strengthen the economy.
Through collaboration on training and resource materials and by providing support on foundational campaigns, such as Building Safety Month, both organizations have made substantial efforts in creating a safer and more educated building industry.
