Dubai Municipality (DM), a key authority in promoting building safety and sustainability, has announced that they have joined the International Code Council’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Building Science Advisory Council (BSAC). DM’s participation in this council underlines its unwavering commitment to enhancing building safety standards in Dubai and the wider MENA region.

Meera Alameri, Section Manager of Research and Building Systems at DM. “Our mission is to push the boundaries of design and sustainability while ensuring that building safety remains at the forefront of our endeavors. Through this collaboration, we aim to further strengthen the foundation of safe and sustainable construction practices.”

Their proactive initiatives include the development and enforcement of building codes, active inspection protocols and the endorsement of sustainable and innovative building materials and practices such as 3D printing and off-site construction. DM’s contributions have played a crucial role in shaping Dubai’s skyline while ensuring that safety and sustainability are integral components to every construction project.
Expanding Membership and Promoting Sustainability-Driven Innovations
The International Code Council works closely with regional stakeholders and demand drivers to contribute to the development of holistic and integrated approaches that provide added value and elevate the regional user experience. As the International Code Council’s MENA BSAC continues to expand its membership, so does the communication among strategic players in the building safety sector. This can be further elevated through a platform that fosters the exchange of expertise in various areas, including training, code development and standardization procedures, product evaluation, testing and more.
“We’re delighted to welcome DM to our Advisory Council, marking another milestone in our growing relationship. Their commitment encompasses a broader dedication to enhancing building safety practices”, said International Code Council MENA Regional Director of Operations, Mohamed Amer.
Established in early 2022, the MENA BSAC strives to foster the exchange of insights and expertise concerning the latest developments in construction innovation and building safety practices among esteemed members. This initiative seeks to promote a culture of collaboration and continuous learning within the MENA building sector, in order to promote sustainability-driven innovations which will create a better future for the industry.
