City of Chico Honored as CALBO’s Building Department of the Year
CALBO has been recognizing Building Departments throughout the state of California for their outstanding achievements for 23 years.
At their Annual Business Meeting held from March 5 – 9, 2023, the California Building Officials (CALBO) presented the City of Chico with its 2022 Building Department of the Year award.
Chico’s building department, with a staff of 18 hardworking professionals, processed 6,526 building permits in 2022, which was the highest volume of development within the past 25 years.
The City of Chico has also shown unwavering commitment to not only supporting their community but their neighboring communities that have been devastated by natural disasters.
“Staying true to the mission of building departments to promote public safety and assist in disaster recovery efforts, the City of Chico immediately reached out to the Town of Paradise and Butte County following the devastating Paradise Camp Fire and Berry Creek Bear Fire,” CALBO included in its award announcement.
“While maintaining a commitment to its community, the department went above and beyond to assist in the recovery efforts of neighboring communities after two devastating natural disasters. In their efforts, the department immediately aided its neighbors by inspecting damaged buildings while still completing the duties necessary to meet the needs of their community.”
