Code Council Annual Conference update
For the past 10 years, the chief executive officer, staff and board of directors have worked hard to put the International Code Council in a strong position to withstand external factors that could impact the association. The association has built a resilient family of solutions for the building safety community. Even during these tough times, there are many things to celebrate, including the 40th anniversary of Building Safety Month. For an overview of what the Code Council accomplished last year, view our 2019 annual report.
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is greater than anything that could have been anticipated, but we are happy to report that we are continuing to serve our members and clients with the products and services they need to keep our communities safe. Our visionary planning and preparations have allowed us to pivot to working remotely without interruption in our services. We are confident that your association and our industry will emerge from this crisis stronger than ever. Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer our annual conference survey. The responses were extremely helpful as the board of directors contemplated the best path forward given the current climate. After much discussion and deliberation, the board has decided not to hold a Code Council Annual Conference, Expo and Annual Business Meeting in 2020.
Given the health concerns for large gatherings, a possible resurgence of the virus in the fall, and declining budgets for many building safety departments, the Board felt this was the best decision for keeping our members and staff safe.
We know that many of you rely on our conference for your annual training needs. We are exploring ways to expand our virtual educational offerings. This month we are running a series of free webinars for Building Safety Month on disaster preparedness, water efficiency, the effects of COVID-19 on our industry and deck safety. We hope you can join us.
If you haven’t already, please visit our Coronavirus Response Center, which has the information you need to navigate the pandemic. As many communities begin to reopen, we encourage you to check out the article, Considerations for reopening following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Together we are making a difference in the built environment and in the safety of our communities worldwide. Thank you for your continued support of the Code Council and our important building safety mission.
