General Code to host webinars
The International Code Council’s Learning Center will host a General Code live webinar — Online Zoning Tools: An Overview of Municity and MapLink — to help individuals develop an increased understanding of what General Code does and how to successfully navigate through both an online integrated parcel management software as well as a visual zoning application. Participants will gain an understanding of how these applications benefit both municipal employees and residents, as well as learn how to navigate the lifecycle of the permit process through the online tool; summarize the reporting and analytics capabilities of the integrated parcel management software; describe mobile use for dynamic updates; create a parcel summary; and explain where the zoning information that the interactive zoning map displays, comes from.
The two-hour webinar will be offered on the following days starting at noon (CST).
- Wednesday, February 20, 2019
- Wednesday, May 15, 2019
- Thursday, August 15, 2019
- Tuesday, October 15, 2019
The live web sessions are web-based and require an internet connection. The webinar link will be sent from messenger@WebEx.com and will arrive on the Friday before the webinar takes place. If you’re interested in this opportunity, please click here or email learn.iccsafe.org to enroll.
General Code provides local governments with tools and processes that produce greater efficiency and transparency for them and the communities they serve. General Code services fall into two main categories: codification and content management.
Codification is the process of keeping a local government’s laws organized, structured and updated to serve as a good legal reference for the municipality. General Code legal editors and attorneys review local ordinances, legislation and laws to identify conflicts or duplication among documents. These municipal laws have to do with a wide range of topics such as noise restrictions, zoning requirements and traffic rules. General Code then works with the municipality to create a single, consistent resource and compile the information into a comprehensive source (the code). General Code publishes the code in print or in an online platform called eCode360. General Code also has an eCode Search App that allows people to search their code while they’re on the go — for example, a building inspector can search a code while on the jobsite through the app. Subsequently, General Code updates codes by integrating new laws into the existing code. eCode360 currently houses over 2,000 municipal codes in 26 states.
General Code’s content management services allow municipalities and public organizations to move from paper documents to electronic documents for forms, e-signatures, permitting, code enforcement, business process/workflows and records management through two software solutions: Municity and Laserfiche. Municity allows code officials to electronically access, manage and archive applications, inspections, permits, photos and more. Laserfiche allows organizations to securely manage and share documents, videos, photos and other content digitally.
