ICC board summer meeting highlights

The International Code Council Board of Directors held its annual summer meeting on July 20, 2019, in Denver, Colo. Present at the meeting were Board President William “Bill” Bryant, the board’s senior officers and directors, Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, and Code Council senior staff. During this meeting, the board covered a wide variety of issues, including the following notable items:

Strategic Plan 2025 Update: The board provided considerable and invaluable feedback during a lengthy discussion and assessment of the current iteration of the 2025 Code Council Strategic Plan. Together with Code Council staff and the strategic consultants, the board plans to finalize the 2025 strategic plan within the coming weeks and looks forward to a successful and prompt implementation.

Timeline for the Ad Hoc Committee on ABM Business & Elections: In accordance with the board’s guidance, the Ad Hoc Committee on ABM Business & Elections brought forth a proposed timeline outlining the committee’s work over the next year. This timeline received board approval and specifically outlines the committee’s continued research into the concept of electronic remote voting on elections and other business at the Annual Business Meeting.

Committee Appointments: The board approved appointments to the 2019 Nominating Committee, the Professional Development Council, the Off-Site and Modular Construction Consensus Committee, and the Multi-Hazard Resiliency for Residential Construction Standards Portfolio. Individual appointment letters are forthcoming.

In addition to these actions, the board enjoyed a media training session led by Constance “Connie” Custer, owner of Custer Communications. Custer has 35 years of communications experience, serving in the Air Force as a public affairs officer, then as a communicator in small and large private-sector businesses and nonprofits. Custers’s thoughtful presentation equipped the board with strategic approaches for how to respond to media inquiries and interviews.

The next in-person board meeting will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nev., in conjunction with the Code Council’s Annual Conference. Information on upcoming and previous board meetings can be found here.
