Public Review Period Open for New Code Council and ASHRAE Carbon Emissions Evaluation Standard
The proposed standard aims to address the assessment and documentation of greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire life cycle of buildings
The International Code Council and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have recently announced the initiation of a public review period for the full publication draft of ASHRAE/ICC Standard 240P – Quantification of Life Cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Buildings. This review period will be open for public comment from February 2, 2024, to March 18, 2024.
The proposed standard aims to address the assessment and documentation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the entire life cycle of buildings. Standard 240P presents a systematic approach to measuring both embodied and operational GHG emissions associated with buildings and their respective sites. The standard will also establish minimum requirements for the documentation of life cycle GHG emissions.
The primary objective of this standard is to assist various stakeholders within the building industry, governmental bodies, as well as the finance and investment sectors in adopting a unified platform for the measurement, reporting and action pertaining to the GHG emissions of buildings.
