Understanding the Role of the Code Council
When reflecting on the BLSE, the 2023 participants enjoyed the structure of the program and how it fostered interactions with other municipalities.
“This program gave us access to a lot of intelligent people that have a wealth of knowledge and experience,” said BLSE participant Jason Gray. “This level of access will greatly enhance my ability and my department’s ability to work smarter, not harder.”
The opportunity to be further educated on the Code Council’s mission was also a unanimous highlight amongst participants. Understanding the building safety needs of the public and learning how the Code Council implements model codes and standards to meet those needs was extremely valuable to participants.
“This conference has further proved how important it is for public servants to be educated and in-tune with what’s happening throughout the United States,” said BLSE participant Christylla Miles.
Participating in Code Council Annual Conference Events
The Bridge Building Challenge was one of the most memorable experiences at the conference. There, they were able to not only bond with one another, but also connect with other Code Council members and leaders in attendance.
Speaking with Code Council leadership, not just at the Bridge Building Challenge, but throughout the conference, left participants with a plethora of knowledge and advice.
“The most important thing was the access we had to Code Council leadership,” said Gray. “I strongly believe that we would not have had the opportunity to get to know so many of the council members without being a part of this program.”
The support from Code Council members and leaders was felt and appreciated by everyone in the program. Most participants expressed that attending the conference and being in this program made it clear to them how much the organization values community and communication.
“The willingness of the members to integrate you into the fold is awe-inspiring,” said Margaret Knapp, BLSE participant.
