Celebrating the Retirement of Ed Wirtschoreck and Welcoming New Leadership Within the Code Council
The Code Council invites you to congratulate Wirtschoreck on his retirement and join us in welcoming Tubbs and Stenger to their new roles.
The International Code Council would like to acknowledge the retirement of our esteemed colleague Ed Wirtschoreck, Director of Codes. Wirtschoreck has devoted three decades of his career to the Code Council and its legacy organizations, the Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA), the International Conference of Building Officials and the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc.
Apart from his recent tenure as Director of Codes, Wirtschoreck has held several distinguished positions within the organization. He previously served as the Code Council’s Director of Standards and managed BOCA’s Evaluation Services, beginning his journey there as a staff architect in 1994.
Throughout his career, Wirtschoreck has been instrumental in shaping the history of the International Codes® (I-Codes) and their maintenance, ensuring the successful execution of the code cycle. Through his efforts and contributions to the I-Codes and Code Council standards, he has touched the lives of millions by helping to lay the foundation for a safer built environment around the world.
Wirtschoreck served as a mentor to colleagues at all levels, leaving a lasting impression on the industry. While he will be greatly missed, the Code Council extends its best wishes to Wirtschoreck in this new chapter of life.
Welcoming New Leadership to the Code Development Team
Wirtschoreck will be followed by the new Vice President of Codes, Beth Tubbs, and the new Assistant Vice President of Codes, Kris Stenger. Together, Tubbs and Stenger will be taking over the reins of the Code Council’s Code Development team, bringing a wealth of experience in code development, enforcement and industry application.
Tubbs will oversee the code development process, its effective implementation and updating of the codes on their three-year cycle. The responsibility for the individual codes’ development and coordination will be distributed between Tubbs and Stenger as follows:

- International Wildland Urban Interface Code®
- International Existing Building Code®
- International Property Maintenance Code®
- International Zoning Code®
- ICC Performance Code®
Stenger’s Codes Responsibilities:
- International Energy Conservation Code®
- International Green Construction Code®
- International Residential Code®
- All Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas codes
