Mike Pfeiffer, Senior Vice President of Technical Services, will be retiring on March 31, 2023, after 36 years with the International Code Council. Pfeiffer was essential to the founding of the Code Council and his expertise has shaped the organization forever.
Throughout his tenure, Pfeiffer has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the building safety industry and created a welcoming environment to encourage industry professionals to get involved in the code development process. He dedicated considerable time and effort to ensure everyone understood the process and had a chance to have their voice heard, whether virtually or in person.
At the Code Council’s 2022 Annual Conference in Louisville Ky., Pfeiffer was honored with the prestigious Bobby J. Fowler Award for his integrity, professionalism and compassion in furthering the mission of creating safe, affordable and sustainable buildings and communities.

The BSJ sat down with Mike for one last interview before his retirement for a special look back at highlights from his career achievements and his hopes for the future.
Russ Manning, Deputy Senior Vice President of Technical Services, will succeed Pfeiffer and lead the Code Council’s Technical Services team towards continued success in improving the codes and standards development process, providing architectural and engineering services and making the process of understanding and applying building codes more efficient through code commentaries and code interpretations.
