Efficient Water Use, Water Safety Benefit from Code Council Partnership with WaterSmart Innovations
The International Code Council is the newest WaterSmart Innovations partner and supporter of the largest, most comprehensive urban water efficiency conference in the world. The second WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Exposition, slated for Oct. 7–9 in Las Vegas, is presented by the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense Program and other forward-thinking organizations.
“The partnership with WaterSmart dovetails with other Code Council’s initiatives to support efficient water use and improve water safety,” said Jay Peters, the Council’s Executive Director Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas. “We are developing a new green code for commercial buildings that will address water use efficiency. We just announced plans for a new swimming pool code that will address water safety. Our PMG listing program, in part, evaluates products for water efficiency. ICC 700, a green housing standard, has key provisions for rainwater collection and the construction of smaller homes to conserve resources.”
“In its role as an advocate for and developer of important building codes used in homes, schools and other facilities, the ICC plays an important role in fostering the adoption of water-efficiency standards in construction,” said Doug Bennett, SNWA Conservation Manager and the conference’s Strategic Relations Coordinator. “We’re pleased to have their support for WaterSmart Innovations and look forward to working with ICC and their membership to boost the conference’s success.”
