Code Council Committee on Healthcare (CHC)
In 2011, the ICC Board established the Ad Hoc Committee on Healthcare to study and develop effective and efficient provisions for Hospital and Ambulatory Care Facilities. This committee was formed in cooperation with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE). The objective of this committee is to develop code change proposals to the International Codes which will result in the most contemporary, effective and efficient provisions for hospital and ambulatory care facilities to assure the highest level of safety for all users of such facilities.
Effective July 14, 2017, the ICC Board changed the committee type from an ad hoc committee to a standing committee (See Council Policy 7 Committees and Members for a discussion on committee types) and expanded the scope to include the following types of occupancies and facilities: Hospitals; Ambulatory Care Facilities; Nursing Homes; Care facilities as regulated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS); and occupancy types that fall under the facilities covered by CMS as of July 14, 2017.
