The content outline provides detailed information about the exam, to include the weight (percentage of questions) on the exam. This will help you decide how to best use your time in studying, as well what code sections or chapters require the most attention.

Exam questions may reference the appendices of the reference material, as well as footnotes, exceptions, and other content integral to a task but not immediately obvious.

Be very familiar with the content structure of the reference material. While the Code Council does not require prerequisites to take an exam, it is highly unlikely that someone with little knowledge of the codes or profession will pass an exam.

You will be tested on climate and geographical conditions represented by all regions in the United States when taking a National-based exam.

We offer several study resources at the Code Council, where you can:

• Participate in a course or seminar offered by ICC Training
• Purchase or create your own flash cards
• Receive training by a Preferred Provider, found on the Code Council website

TIP: Understand that no class or other training tool is intended to ensure a passing score on an exam.

The knowledge, skills, and experience that you possess, along with rigorous studying, are the best predictors of passing a Code Council exam.
