ICC Pulse: Hurricane Harvey Code Heroes Housing Network
Although the rain has stopped, southeast Texas will be recovering from Hurricane Harvey in the weeks, months and years to come. In the immediate aftermath of the storm, the Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) has a list of volunteers to help with damage assessments and other code-related duties. Unfortunately, due to the scarce availability of housing, they are having trouble finding places for these volunteers to stay.
The International Code Council is establishing the Hurricane Harvey Code Heroes Housing Network to locate available rooms in the area. If you have a place in or near the impacted area and can offer a room to temporarily house a BOAT volunteer, please click here and provide the following information:
- Your name
- Your contact information including a cell phone number
- The address or general location of the available housing
- The number of people you can house
- The time frame that the space is available
We will then be in touch with more details if your space is required. Please note that we will make every effort to keep your personal information safe and will only provide your contact information to the volunteer you are matched with in this relief effort. Thank you in advance for your generosity during this time of great need.
Even if you can’t offer housing to a volunteer, you can still help those affected by the storm. The Code Council is pledging to match member, staff and stakeholder donations up to $64,000, made during the next three weeks, to the American Red Cross. We are an association of 64,000 members and counting, and together we can make a difference. Click here to donate to the Red Cross today and ICC will match your contribution.
