Mass Timber Webinar Series – 2021 IBC/IFC Tall Mass Timber Construction – Shake and Bake

Historic changes to the 2021 International Building Code allow for construction of tall mass timber buildings with larger heights and areas than is currently permitted in Types III, IV, and V construction. Energy efficiency provisions for mass timber based on the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) will be discussed. Floor-ceiling and wall assemblies in the new mass timber construction types, which will be subject to IBC sound transmission provisions, will be shown. New IBC provisions for special inspection and concepts for lateral design of tall mass timber structures will be presented. Construction fire safety requirements and owner responsibilities included in the International Fire Code (IFC) related to fire resistance elements of the building will also be discussed.
