Voter Validation
The Code Council requires that all Governmental Member Voting Representatives are registered and validated no later than Aug. 21, 2021 in order to vote during the upcoming 2021 Annual Business Meeting and Hearings.
The Code Council has extended the validation cycle for voting credentials of governmental member voting representatives (GMVRs) from one year to three years. Under the new cycle, primary representatives are only required to validate GMVRs one time during a three-year code development cycle.
- Effective January 21, 2019, the International Code Council Board of Directors approved a change in the validation cycle for voting credentials of governmental member voting representatives (GMVRs).
- Under the new rules, primary representatives will only be required to validate GMVRs one time during a three-year code development cycle.
- Once complete, GMVR voting credentials will remain valid for the remainder of the three-year code development cycle, unless the primary representative implements changes.
- The three-year credentialing cycle will also cover the voting year that includes the Annual Business Meeting only.
- Any credentials validated and approved on or after January 1, 2021, are active through December 31, 2023, as long as the governmental member account is fully paid and current.
- This change is representative of the Code Council’s commitment to simplifying the credentialing process for the convenience of our governmental members. Now, GMVRs can participate in Groups A and B of the code development cycle with one credential.
- Extensive GMVR participation in the online governmental consensus vote (OGCV) is one of the best ways to ensure the code development process is fair and the International Codes reflect the most modern and safe building technologies.
